Sunday competition added to Core Hydration Classic
The Core Hydration Classic at NOW Arena in Chicago has become the place to be for gymnasts as well as fans. Due to record-setting athlete registration numbers, including 142 men and 76 women on both the junior and senior elite levels, USA Gymnastics has added a third day of competition to accommodate two additional sessions over the course of the weekend. The event will now run Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6, with senior women competing during two sessions on Saturday and senior men competing during two sessions on Sunday.
Twelve Olympic and World Championships medalists are registered to compete at the Core Hydration Classic, including 2020 Olympic medalists Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles. Also set for Chicago are World Championships medalists Shilese Jones, Leanne Wong, Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, Lexi Zeiss, Yul Moldauer, Donnell Whittenburg and Stephen Nedoroscik, in addition to 2020 U.S. Olympian Shane Wiskus and 2019 European champion and 2020 Olympian Melanie de Jesus dos Santos of France.
The current competition schedules are below. Women who were part of the U.S. team at the World Championships or Olympic Games will compete Saturday evening; elite men who have already qualified for the U.S. Championships will take the floor during the Sunday morning session.
